Between the walls of Castelsardo

Castelsardo is one of the most beautiful villages in Sardinia. Its flagship is its historic centre, perched on a promontory overlooking the sea.

The fortified city was founded in 1100 by the Ligurian Doria family, and was originally called Castelgenovese. In the fourteenth century it was conquered by the Aragonese, becoming Castellaragonese; it then assumed its current name Castelsardo.

The defensive structures of the fortified city evolved from simple towers to more complex bastion defence systems.
Definitely worth a visit are the ramparts and towers, some of which overlook the sea!

The Nuraghi

We have no certain information about the ancient Nuragic civilization.
