The museums of Castelsardo

I musei di Castelsardo: il MIM e il MOG

There are two museums that we recommend you to visit in Castelsardo: the MIM, the Museum of Mediterranean weaving located inside the Doria fortress, and the MOG, the Museum of Genoese Origins dedicated to the history of the city.

The MIM dominates a promontory overlooking the Gulf of Asinara; it is the ideal place to discover the ancient art of weaving, one of the symbols of the Sardinian tradition.

The museum is divided into nine rooms on two floors, but there is more. Indeed, in the streets of the village it is possible to meet basket weavers who weave palm, hay and raffia on their doorsteps, taking up ancient traditions and combining them with innovative and contemporary talent.

The MOG is located inside the ancient Benedictine monastery and illustrates to its visitors the history of Castersardo: from prehistoric presences, whose emblem is the domus de janas excavated in the Elephant Rock, passing from the foundation Genoese castle and the walled city up to the subsequent passages to the Aragonese and Savoy dominations.
