We have no certain information about the ancient Nuragic civilization. It probably consisted of a population of shepherds and farmers divided into small communities who lived in Sardinia for eight centuries. There are about 7000 nuraghi throughout the island but to date their use is not known: they were perhaps defensive fortresses, or palaces or temples. They represented the centre of the social life of these ancient tribes who also left us other megalithic constructions such as necropolis, tombs and places of worship.
In Castelsardo it is possible to admire one: the Nuraghe Paddagiu.
